Note Taking

Notetaking support is available to students who have difficulty taking their own notes. Student volunteers provide email, typed, or handwritten notes. In some cases, computer-based note taking is provided to allow for full participation.

NOTETAKER GUIDELINES

Thank you for your willingness to help provide an equal educational opportunity for students with disabilities by agreeing to share your notes.

NOTETAKER RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Attend class on a regular basis and take comprehensive, legible notes.
  2. Arrange a system of exchanging notes with the student with a disability
    • Use carbonless copy paper (provided by the student) and exchange notes after class
    • Email notes to the student.
    • Make copies or scan notes at Disability Services, 164 Oregon Hall.
    • Suggest another system to the student to see if it works for both of you.
  3. Exchange notes with student on a regular basis.
  4. Make an effort to arrange for notes to be available to student when you miss class.
  5. Turn in Notetaking Agreement to the Disability Services at least 1 week prior to the end of the term to receive letter of volunteer service.
  6. Talk with the student about the notes, your role, or any questions. If you have concerns the student cannot address, contact Disability Services at 346-1155 or disabsrv@uoregon.edu.
  7. Maintain confidentiality at all times (do not disclose student’s name or the nature of service being provided.)

In recognition and appreciation of your work as a notetaker, Disability Services would like to provide you a letter of volunteer service for your portfolio or resume. To receive your letter, fill out and submit this form to Disability Services, or email the information to disabsrv@uoregon.edu .
