Disability Studies Initiative

The Disability Studies Initiative focuses on an academic cross-disciplinary examination of disability in society rather than on a clinical treatment perspective. The mission of the initiative is to establish degree programs in Disability Studies and to raise awareness of disability culture issues on the UO campus. Academic Learning Services (ALS) 68 Prince Lucien Campbell Hall 346-3226
ALS helps students who need assistance with general or specific study skills. Peer tutors in entry-level undergraduate courses are available through ALS. Unless you are an EOP student, you will be responsible for paying your own tutor. Mathematics and writing laboratories are available on a drop-in basis for all students free of charge. In addition, ALS offers several courses. Introduction to the University, a 3-credit course, provides students with an academic orientation to the University. Noncredit workshops are offered in areas such as speed reading, study techniques, grammar, mathematics review, and preparation workshops for the LSAT, GRE, and MCAT examinations. The Student Support Services (SSS) program (TRiO) provides assistance to help undergraduates meet their academic demands and graduate from the University of Oregon. The program assists students whose socioeconomic, educational, and personal situations suggest they may experience significant challenges while working toward their bachelor's degrees. At the University of Oregon, SSS participants' graduation rates exceed those of the general student body.

The Career Center offers career planning services to help students combine their educational and career goals. Individual counseling is available to help students select courses and majors that support these goals. Assistance with career placement is available through job listings and, in some cases, on-campus interviews. Free workshops and seminars on resume writing, interviewing skills, and job search strategies are offered. The Career Center also offers several credit workshops, including identifying skills and interests, and information about the job search process. Go to: Career Center.
Counseling and Testing Center 2nd Floor, Student Health Center Counseling: 346-3227 Testing: 346-3230
The Counseling Center offers confidential individual and group counseling on such topics as substance abuse, eating disorders, relationship difficulties, stress, depression, sexual identity, and cultural issues. Staff members provide consultation and outreach services to various student groups at the University.
The Testing Office schedules and administers required placement examinations for such subjects as mathematics, composition, and languages. The Testing Office also serves as a coordinator for most national testing programs such as the GRE, LSAT, CLEP, and the GMAT, and provides application forms and registration materials for these programs. In addition, DS proctors a majority of many midterm and final exams in the Testing Center. Go to: Counseling and Testing Center.
Department of Public Safety

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) assists the University in realizing the educational, research, and public service opportunities at the University of Oregon by providing a safe and secure environment. DPS also administers parking and key control programs for the campus and security and law enforcement. Students needing Disabled Parking information should contact DPS for forms and procedures. Security Escort Services
Office of Public Safety: Students can request a security escort after dusk by calling 346-5444.
Women’s Center: Saferide is a free rape-prevention shuttle service that provides females at the University with a safe alternative to walking alone at night and risking possible assault. Reservations are only accepted on the day of the ride and are made on a first-come first-serve basis. If you need a wheelchair accessible van, please specify in your reservation.

Equipment Repair Services Craft Center, EMU 346-4361
A do-it-yourself tire patching and minor repair facility is available in the Craft Center. There is a small fee for the use of the equipment.
